The end of September in Durban has long –time become synonymous with the ever popular Durban International Blues Festival, and this year, with a slight shift in the dates to accommodate the school holiday period, the growing event takes place from Tues 2 Oct to Sun 7 Oct, still at Wilson’s Wharf, Durban.

The festival, now in its 8th successful year will play host to a number of well-known and carefully selected bands and musicians including The Reals, Swart Piet, East Coast Blues Band, the Tim Wells Blues Band, Shiela de Blue Note, and the fabulously popular Albert Frost from Cape Town with fellow Capetonian’s Natasha Meister and the Boulevard Blues. This year also sees the return of the popular Baret Blues, whilst new additions include the young band Customized and The DHS Band (Durban Boys High School) and many more and the cherry on top is the ever fabulous blues master from the USA –Jimmy D Lane but watch the press and the website for added program information.

In addition, there will be music workshops held through the week, where education on the blues as a genre will be focused on and delivered by the likes of Program Director Will Wallace and Festival Director Themi Venturas and other knowledgeable parties. Visit the website for more information.

‘A great line up of some of South Africa’s best blues artists make up the program and include the likes of many more,” says Publicity Director Tanya van Agthoven Marais . The usual FENDER evening on Wednesday 3 Oct ,sponsored by Glenwood Village Music, is on the program again this year and there will also be a special show performed at the Catalina Theatre upstairs from 18h00 to 19h00 performed by The Reals as usual.

Tickets, which are R85 and can be booked via the Durban International Blues Office on 031 3056889 /6886 will be on sale shortly. The shows from Tues 2nd to Fri 5th are free on the Deck downstairs but the performance to see The Reals upstairs at The Catalina Theatre are R50 pp.

Once can purchase a season ticket for both paid for nights including The Catalina Show upstairs for R250 otherwise daily entrance fee for down stairs on the paid for nights of Sat 6th and Sun 7th October are R100 pp and an additional R50 pp for an earlier show upstairs at The Catalina (The Reals).
