Black Coffee’s Africa Rising

Black Coffee and Brendan Jury (Resized).jpg

Black Coffee’s AfricaRising is an exciting collaboration pitting the DJing prowess of Black Coffee, currently SA house music’s most recognized talent, with a 24-piece orchestra.
AfricaRising’s two-hour show features Coffee performing popular and unreleased tracks live alongside a 24-piece orchestra conducted by Brendan Jury featuring a host of vocalists and musos.

Spiritchaser

Spiritchaser duo Mark Bamford and Richard Earnshaw first started producing electronic music together at the turn of the century, bonding over a love for deep, progressive and emotive house music. Their track “These Tears” (featuring vocalist Emily Haughton) has been the single biggest dancefloor bomb in South Africa in 2011, and it’s taken off their debut album ‘1440’ on their own Guess Records label. Both Bamford and Earnshaw have had plenty of success outside of Spritchaser; Bamford as a leading DJ and Earnshaw (who is a classically-trained musician) as a producer who’s worked with the likes of Roy Ayers and Jocelyn Brown.

Low Deep T

Low Deep T is a former hot-shot in the world of garage music - under the moniker TJ Cases he sold 4 million CDs and made what Craig David cites as the best track ever from that scene. Since 2009 he’s been using the name Low Deep T as an umbrella for his soulful and Afro-centric house productions, which have scored numerous number ones on download sites like Traxsource and been licensed for compilations across the planet. His latest release is a collection of material for esteemed South African label, House Afrika.

DJ Rocco

Rocco is a torch-bearer for deep house music in France, DJing at spots like Space in Lyon alongside the likes of Laurent Garnier and Louie Vega and producing successful tracks like “Someday” for labels like Real Tone, Freerange and Defected. He’s also a member of Rodamaal alongside Alez S, David and Manoo, and they unleashed the break-out anthem “Insomnia” on Buzzin’ Fly in 2005. An in-demand DJ, Rocco regularly plays across Europe, USA, Asia and SA.

Ralf GUM

Ralf GUM is one of the planet’s most highly-rated house heads, with a passion for harmonic and diverse sounds that’s landed him in literally hundreds of DJ booths. As a producer he’s worked with Wunmi and Monique Bingham and recorded Traxsource’s top-selling house track of 2008, “Kissing Strangers”, on his own reputable GOGO Music label. The label also released his debut album, ‘Uniting Music’, in the same year - to plenty of critical acclaim.

Vinny da Vinci (DJs at Work)

Vinny Da Vinci is a vital figure in SA dance music, a partner in House Afrika, a producer and hugely respected DJ. With over 20 compilations out under his name and 5 acclaimed, platinum-selling albums out under the DJs At Work moniker (with DJ Christos), Vinny has played out his fathoms deeper house style at spots like Ibiza’s Pacha and Miami’s Winter Music Conference, alongside Louie Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Dennis Ferrer, Charles Webster, Mr. V and more.

DJ Christos (DJs at Work)

DJ Christos is widely credited for laying the foundations of the SA dance scene; a pioneering DJ, producer and label manager responsible for unleashing groundbreaking acts like Boom Shaka and Black Coffee.

Alongside Vinny Da Vinci in DJs At Work he won a Best Dance SAMA in 1998, and has since picked up a further four SAMAs, as well as executing a string of excellent mix-CDs and establishing the SA Music Conference in 2004 - guests have included Franck Roger, Charles Webster, Rocco and Manoo.

Oskido

Oskido started his fairytale career selling wors rolls outside a Hillbrow nightclub before taking over the DJ booth. Since then he’s become a South African dance music legend, founding the seminal Kalawa Jazmee label and producing pioneering kwaito acts like Boom Shaka and Trompies; forming Brothers Of Peace with Bruce Sebitlo and scoring releases for the Masters At Work label; and breaking down barriers on the airwaves as a Yfm, and now Metro FM DJ. To this day he remains one of the most sought-after spinners in the country.

Franck Roger

One of the real underground heroes of France’s house scene, Franck Roger has also been a champion for South African music via his Real Tone imprint, which has released tracks by the likes of Black Coffee and Zakes Bantwini. His sets and label find a home for everything from vocal-led soulful house to more jacking techno-oriented fare, and this diversity has led to Roger deejaying far and wide, from Paris’ intimate Djoon to Berlin’s Panorama Bar; from Japan to South Africa.

Black Motion

Comprised of DJ Murder and Smol, Black Motion formed in 2010 and broke through shortly afterwards when their tune “Banane Mavoko” was included on an Oskido’s ‘Church Grooves’ CD. It subsequently got a UK release with remixes from Blaze’s Josh Milan. They’ve just released their debut album on Oskido’s Kalawa label and it features vocalists like Lando and XoliM. Add another classy and captivating crew to the new breed of brilliant talented beat-makers emerging from South Africa.

DJ Strat3gy

Strat3gy's partnership at House Afrika was announced with his first release on Sounds of Peng. He mixes a passion for 4/4 beats with media skills spanning music distribution, broadcast, online and events, like April's Vodacom Unlimited Festival in Orlando. Along with DJ stints at The Foundation (including alongside Louie Vega), the 25th Anniversary of House (with Jesse Saunders) and the epic annual Swaziland New Year's Eve party, Strat3gy's popular touch has produced award-winning music videos for Rhythmic Elements and Liquideep, and TV shows like Channel O’s Bassment and Vuzu’s Hit Refresh with his convergence agency, Don’t Look Down. Strat3gy is the executive producer of the Vodacom Unlimited Festival at Moses Mabhida.

Tim White

Tim White is SA’s mack daddy of deep, having played at early SA house/techno venue Fourth World and starting the House Afrika empire. White established the local compilation market when House Afrika released the country’s very first mix-CD collections, ‘Fresh House Flava’ and ‘Deep House Sounds’. House Afrika have subsequently had success with Rhythmic Elements and alongside the Bass Breaks & Beats label with Liquideep. Tim introduced Spiritchaser and Low Deep T to the market and has an uncanny ability to pick the hits before they happen. White also DJs on TV shows like Vuzu’s Hit Refresh.

Andy X

Andy X was DJing across KZN before attending the SA Music Conference in 2005, where he fell in love with production. The release of his ‘The First Movement’ album and his production on the breakout hit by Shana, "Outie”, established him as a rising star and led to gigs alongside the likes of Mr. V, Quentin Harris, Osunlade and Franck Roger. Andy is also a vital presence on Channel O, handling their cutting edge video mix show, Bassment..
